Seriously, though, people. We literally were at Cascina Luisin a week ago as part of our road-warrior, pedal-to-the-metal Italy tasting trip, and we can tell you -- LUISIN is making some of the most finely crafted, refined, elegant-but-mind-blowingly-complex and powerful wines in the region -- and guess who discovered them? BINGO!! What a wine and what a PRICE!


WOW wow wow! The nose! Truffles, black currants, orange zest, black tea and incense. OH mama, stop us. Expansive and mouthfilling, it is silky even at this tender young age, but oh-so complex and wonderful. A MUST. Man, for real. The finish is long and lush, with a terrifically layered, crazy-complex fruit and spice basket of flavor. If you have not dipped your tongue into this producer, there is simply NO. BETTER. TIME!! Wow! Only a little bit to go around! Did we mention 93 points?

The characteristic minerality given by the limestone soils of Asili is present both on the nose and palate. The fruit is pure, including cherry and raspberry compote and accompanied by baking spices and herbs. Bright acidity and velvety texture.

About The Producer

Cascina Lusin was founded in 1913 by Luigi Minuto, great-grandfather of the current owner Roberto Minuto. The wine estate has always been owned and run by the family, with the aim of guaranteeing meticulous control over all stages of winemaking: from accurate and rigorous care of the vineyards and attentive work in the cellar, to marketing and public relation duties. 

Cascina Luisin is situated in the Rabaja area in the territory of Barbaresco, one of the epicenters of Langhe's winemaking. The winery cultivates 8 hectares of vineyards and produces an average of 30,000 bottles yearly. Cascina Luisin concentrates on the four classic grape varieties Nebbiolo, Barbera, Dolcetto and Arneis. The company's business philosophy is firmly based on special care for a sound viticulture and on great respect for tradition regarding technique of vinification. This is the secret which allows each single vineyard to express its unique and undisputed qualities.
