Domaine Marius Delarche Corton-Renardes Vieilles Vignes Grand Cru 2016
*** sigh ***
OK - one more!! Since someone just brought in some duck confit legs and bread from our beloved Fatted Calf in Napa, that just BEGS for Burgundy. Why stop now??
COLLECTORS!! This is a red alert, ya-gotta-be-crazy-at-this-price (we ARE, in fact, crazy to sell this at $69 but whatevs, yo), brilliant CLASSIC from Delarche, the V.V. GRAND CRU Corton-Renardes from 50-year old vines, in the excellent 2016 vintage! MADNESS!
For decades (since the 40s, actually) the Delarche family has crafted authentic, earthy and expressive Burgundy in Pernand, pretty much under the radar of the Burgundy cognoscenti (although not for long…). That means pricing is still manageable (yes, $135 is manageable when it comes to Burgundy!), but at ours right now? It’s like Fantasy Island, kids --- don’t miss!!
No press on this yet, but this wine is a KEEPER! Just a baby now (this will hold for decades…), it offers up expressive rose petals, red berries, delicate smoke and earth, plums, anise, leather...mmmm. Hope we can drink this again in 2029 and 2039!! Just astoundingly priced...DO NOT MISS! That’s it! We give up, someone get us an Uber…!

About The Producer
The cellar at Marius Delarche literally overlooks the hill
of Corton, one of the greatest vineyard plots in the world. With Grand Cru dirt
of both the red and white variety, the slope of Corton is home to incredible
grapes that make it into only a select few cellars. It takes nerves of steel to
work with fruit from Corton and the surrounding vineyards of
Pernand-Vergelesses, as mistakes are very, very expensive. The late Philippe
Delarche and his son Etienne were more than up to the challenge. The Delarche philosophy
is about minimalist, low-intervention, small-batch winemaking. When you're
working with raw materials of the caliber they source, you let nature do the
work for you. Nothing Etienne makes is more than a few dozen barrels (at the
most) so the care and attention to detail each lot receives is borderline
coddling.
