Six Sigma Ranch Sauvignon Blanc Asbill Valley 2017 - Last Bottle

Six Sigma Ranch Sauvignon Blanc Asbill Valley 2017

Today’s Six Sigma is NOT an episode of Black Mirror, or even Star Trek, no, it is a planet-rattling deal on a rich, stylish, thirst-quenching and quite literally lip-smacking Sauvignon Blanc that we totally scored on --- if you drink crisp whites with any regularity (of course you do), at our incredible price you need to throw a case of this in your cart!! $10? C’mon!!

This winery is just over the northern Napa County line, in a prime spot that a lot of wineries WISH was in Napa County! Anyway, this blew away a lot of other much-pricier wines on our tasting bar last week, oh yes!! We call it “stylish” because it sees some oak aging (not too much, but enough to ramp up the zippy, complex flavors). This adds some delectable nuances you don’t normally get from a straight clean SB --- think rounder, spicier, more savory and aromatic. It’s just GOOD!! Crisp lemon flavors, “wet stone” (yup, that’s a thing), sweet pea, vanilla….mmmmm, OK, off to get another glass. You saw that price we magicked up for you, right? While it lasts…...

The land of Six Sigma Ranch was first settled in the mid-1800s by about two dozen families, most of them living on 160-acre tracts. Several of the original family names are still connected with Six Sigma Ranch land or neighboring ranches: Asbill Creek, Copsey Creek, Hutchinson’s Range, Jim Dollar Mountain, Kouns Flat, Schwiers’ Flat.

The recorded history of Six Sigma Ranch dates to 1859 when William Daniel Asbill Sr. and his family settled close to our present gate on Spruce Grove Road. The family was of English heritage and had traveled in covered wagons from their former home in Dade County, Missouri. Over the years, the Asbills bought land from other settlers, and Asbill Ranch grew to 800 acres. Today this land covers the western part of Six Sigma Ranch. Both Michael’s and Else’s Vineyards were planted on former Asbill land.

About The Producer

Six Sigma Ranch & Winery is located south of Lower Lake in Lake County, California. The winery is less than an hour drive north of Napa Valley, and approximately 100 miles from San Francisco and Sacramento. When we acquired the land in year 2000, the 4,300-acre cattle ranch stood out as a place that could fulfill their dreams of sustainable farming and grape-growing, while still maintaining all of the natural beauty that comes with it.

Michael’s Vineyard is located in Asbill Valley, adjacent to the front gate of the property at Spruce Grove Road. This vineyard was planted in the spring of 2004, and it contains 12.7 acres of Sauvignon Blanc vines, placed in irregularly sized vineyard blocks among the ancient oak trees. Although the irregular blocks are less cost-efficient to develop, we believe it is worth the extra effort to keep the natural landscape. Rootstocks are 101-14, 5BB, SO4, and St. George. Spacing: 8 by 5. The first harvest was in 2006. This vineyard is named after Michael Ahlmann, the youngest son of Else and Kaj Ahlmann.
