Roger Roessler Black Pine Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast 2017

Can you hear it?

Wilhelm Richard Wagner’s Flight of the Valkyries?

Yes...the unbeatable, LB-client-all-time-fave BLACK PINE pinot noir has landed in the Napa warehouse -- release the dragon-slaying kraken!!

Of course we are prone to hyperbole, but...DANG! Black Pine has truly been an LB uber-fave since we got rolling in 2011, and why not? Winemaker Roger Roessler, a pinot noir winemaking master, sold his winery to HALL some years back to focus on Russian River pinot. Black Pine is his newest project with winemaker Drew Huffine (resume includes KOSTA BROWNE, DUMOL, AUTEUR, COPAIN, TUCK BECKSTOFFER.....!!) with a focus on world-class pinot. Add to that the fact that many of the grapes sourced for this include some much-coveted and not-spoken-of-other-than-in-hushed-tones vineyards used by Kosta-Browne and other rock-star-ish producers. CARPE DIEM while we have it!

This release might be the finest yet (this wine has scored very well in past vintages, FYI), just poppin' with a riot of Christmas-time fruits and spices --- sweet fruits, blackberry extract, cherry pie, cola, and light toasted spices, smooth and silky and balanced. Simply perfect. First-timer or seasoned customers will LOVE it, as your trusted confidants in all things vinous, we can’t recommend it more highly.

BUT...hurry! We get less of it every year!!

Deep garnet color portends the effusive rich aromas that leap from the glass. Ripe black cherry, sandalwood and a hint of red apple are the primary aromas, with an underbelly of lees character providing another level of complexity.
Supple mouth filling entrance that embraces you with incredible richness, all balanced with plum skin astringency and acidity. Black cherry, plum and a touch of brioche on the finish completes this hedonistic wine.

About The Producer

Founded in 2000, Roger Roessler Wines celebrate the artistic nature of winemaking by focusing on small lot production from vineyards that are farmed by growers who are passionate about their winegrowing. Blending select lots to produce our Sonoma Coast Black Pine Pinot Noir and Big Bend Chardonnay, we also produce single vineyard designated wines from some of the finest sites in California. The wines consistently demonstrate profound balance, focus and clarity of varietal composition.

Pairing Suggestions

Pinot Noir is a perfectly suited wine to pair with a wide variety of foods because of the bright acidity. This wine offers complexity and rich fruit to go along with that acidity. It pairs well with Salmon off the grill or braised Duck Breast. Because of the depth of flavor with this particular bottling, it would also be perfect with Braised Short Ribs with an Asian Spice accent.
