BOOM! As is often the case, there we were tasting lord-knows-how-many-wines and BAM this rich, dark inky blockbuster we’d never heard of just blows everything else off the table. Wow! NOT FOR THE FAINT OF HEART, no no!! 

In researching this killer Washington State wine we stumbled on a few interesting data points --- these are other 2015 wines Jeb Dunnuck rated 92 POINTS --- Far Niente Cabernet ($170), Chateau Vaudieu Chateauneuf ($55), Sanford Pinot ($70) and many more. This is a fantastic, “whoa, what is THIS?” powerhouse for a ridiculous $19. Nineteen! 

GARD is focused on Rhone-style wines --- the “Vaucluse” is a reference to the winegrowing zone in the heart of the Rhone Valley. Mostly Syrah and Grenache, this will get your heart pounding and quite possibly spur you to run out to the nearest French bistro spot in your town for some duck or quail or steak tartare. The owner/winemaker is Aryn Morell, who counts just a few wineries on his resume…Joseph Phelps, Quintessa, Hundred Acre, Husic, Hartwell, Chimney Rock, Caldwell Vineyards, Vineyard 29, Chappellet, Rutherford Hill, Spring Mountain Winery, Stags Leap Winery, Turnbull, Elyse and countless others!!

Jeb pretty much nails this wine in his review: “sports an inky color to go with beautiful Syrah notes of plums, cured meats, olive tapenade, and peppered meats. With medium to full-bodied richness, excellent purity, a big mid-palate, and a great finish, it's a terrific wine.”

Ditto, Jeb. We loved it -- and are STOKED to have it at this price! It will fly out the door…

About The Producer

Gard Vintners is dedicated to crafting world-class wines from its sustainably farmed estate vineyard on the Royal Slope of Washington's Columbia Valley AVA. We produce 6,000 cases a year for our wine club, three tasting rooms and select distribution in the northwest and across the country. Founded in 2006, Gård Vintners is a family-owned and operated estate winery in the heart of Washington’s Columbia Valley AVA, with vineyards on the Royal Slope, wine production in Walla Walla, and tasting rooms in Woodinville, Walla Walla, and Ellensburg. The winery was founded by Josh and Lisa Lawrence, along with Josh's dad John Lawrence and uncle Sandy Lawrence, who had farmed the Royal Slope for more than 40 years. The winery and estate vineyard is now owned and operated by Josh and his wife, Lisa, who oversees sales and marketing, while Josh oversees the vineyard and other farm and orchard operations. In 2011 Aryn Morell joined the team as winemaker, and winemaking is now managed at M&L Production in Walla Walla, a partnership between Morell and the Lawrences.
