Not to push, but this 2019 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione is something every red-drinking person on Earth should be LOADING UP on (the quality is WICKED, best in years!!), and the 2020 Toscana? Talk about SURPRISE and DELIGHT! I got a glass of each on my desk and I seriously can’t decide which one I love more! But hey, I’m not Sophie, and I don’t have to choose! WooHOO! Our price for this Castello Vicchiomaggio two-pack IS SIMPLY OFF-THE-CHAIN! Under $60…for two, TWO epic Tuscan stunners – one 95 POINT Chianti Classico Gran Selezione and one seriously intense Super-Tuscan of sangiovese, cabernet sauvignon, and merlot with an equally serious score of 93 POINTS from Vinous! Dang!

These are wines to be consumed with heart-bursting joy and rays of Tuscan sunshine beaming through your soul…read a bit on each below, but do not delay!

Ok, Chianti Classico first…La Prima is a 2.2-hectare vineyard planted on the heavy clay and Galestro soils that Chianti is revered for – all at an altitude of 250 meters above sea level. They sneak a small dash of merlot in there (Italians everywhere just pinched all their fingers together and pointed to the sky, I know…), but it WORKS! (Obviously…95 POINT Chianti Classico aren’t exactly everywhere these days…) Red flowers galore, and sandalwood, with balsamic notes, and THE CHERRIES! Oh my, this is what Chianti is all about – soft, elegant, creamy, spicy, and layer upon layer of tongue-saturating deliciousness! Rigatoni Bolognese just got added to the menu for tonight, gotta wrap this up and call my Nonna!

Ripa delle More (basically, “blackberry hedge”) is a different beast altogether… mostly sangiovese, then cabernet sauvignon and merlot – all blended together to craft something modern, powerful, and smack you upside the head delicious! They’ve been doing this since 1980 – so way, way before the whole SUPER-TUSCAN craze caught fire, and baby, take a seat Billy Idol…this is a REBEL YELL into the upper stratosphere! Blackberries (no way!) galore, then baked plums, and sweet smoke, some rose petal and lilacs, balsamic reduction, a kiss of cedar, some orange zest – all wrapped up in this hedonistic and silky smooth package. Napa cab lovers are gonna lose their minds over this…93 POINTS!

Why are you still here? Go get ‘em and then get on with your Sunday! Peace!

**Ok, one last little tidbit… did you know, the great Leonardo Da Vinci stayed at the Castello Vicchiomaggio during the time he was believed to have painted the Mona Lisa? Sweet, right?**

Owned by John and Paola Matta, the Castello Vicchiomaggio estate spans 140 hectares, encompassing 34 hectares of vineyards, 10 hectares of olive trees, and the remainder dedicated to a picturesque park. Notably, sangiovese takes center stage among the cultivated varieties, serving as the foundational grape for Chianti Classico. The estate also embraces indigenous grapes like Canaiolo and Colorino, alongside international varieties merlot and cabernet sauvignon, key players in the production of their renowned IGT-certified red wines.
