Champagne Ch. & A. Prieur Grand Prieur Millesime Brut 2008

BUBBLY! Bring it! Not just ANY, yo…VINTAGE 2008 Grand Prieur, one of the all-time greats and a blast from the past for hardcore fizz fans, at a rip-roaring, vaguely-panic-inducing price on this sunny Spring Saturday

** Colossal no-brainer buy, bubblyheads – wicked price, and not a lot, just throwing that out there… **

PRIEUR! Old skool Last Bottle fans might remember in our early days we got a fair bit of these rarities (still have a few in the cellar??!), then we lost them for 5-6 years…until today. A glorious return to our warehouse, direct from the House in the Vertus (established 1825) region of Champagne, just south of Epernay, and WOW this is going to have sitting down to grasp it, or vice versa possibly running around to anyone you can find to exclaim “This is the gnarliest, most-excellent deal I ever got from LB, if only I’d bought more!!” Understandable, given the mind-hammering price we scored — WAY way over 50% OFF and…OK…this is 2008 vintage, y’all. Not a non-vintage blend, not a lesser vintage — ‘08!! Crazy! Wine Advocate rates the vintage 99 points and Vinous a 98 – it’s not just us saying how great it is! Please get some!!

ENERGY! Wow! The mouth gets laser-beamed with rich, finessed lemon peels and apple, gingerbread, and orange blossom, THEN the deepness coats your mouth with toasted croissants, bread dough, ginseng, candied citrus pith, nuts, crushed stone, AND THEN it finishes with complex toastiness and the lingering lemon and chalky minerality….HEADY! Sooooooooooooooo good!! Truly sensational at this price, we can’t stress that enough! Happy Saturday, woo hoo!

About The Producer

“In 1825, Jean-Louis Prieur established the first Champagne house in Vertus: Ch. & A.

Prieur, named for his two sons, Charles & Alphrède. The ownership of the Maison Prieur

was transferred to passionate, enterprising winegrowers in 2005, determined to regain

the House’s former nobility. Made from the best of the crus, Ch. & A. Prieur

Champagnes combine tradition and modernity, offering elegant, generous and balanced

cuvees, aged at least twice as long as required by the appellation.

Although the first wine-producing vineyards in Champagne appeared between the 3rd

and 5th centuries AD, the events of the 17th century brought the beginning of

Champagne as we know it today. The vine-growers of Champagne had learned how to

stabilize their wines and keep them fresh for several years. As a result of hard work, the

Champenois also obtained a white wine by combining both black and white grapes

using grapes that had been grown in the Champagne region. By the last decades of that

century, they mastered the mysteries of effervescence, which was their stroke of genius.”
