Domaine de la Denante Chardonnay Bourgogne Vieilles Vignes 2020

TENSION. No, not that, the GOOD KIND, the White Burgundy kind! Acid! Minerality! Stoniness! TENSION!

2020 is a fine vintage for that salivary-gland-zapping freshness, oh yes. I’m looking at a small pile of boxes here, wondering why I don’t just buy it all myself - I mean, I’ll drink it. THIS PRICE! Drink it ALL summer with unfettered abandon – go! $16!!

We’ve been working with this Domaine for a few years now and the wines just continue to ROCK. Crazy-huge bang-for-the-buck. Chardonnay from the finest place on this planet to grow it, tongue-tinglingly zesty and terrifyingly easy to drink, stainless-steel fermented zippity-doo-dah freshness, 30+ year old chardonnay vines (V.V. or Vieilles Vignes, old vines), OVER 50% OFF retail, with extremely high crushability factor. YES! Bring it!

Zippy, clean and pure, as it should be. Starts out brisk, and as it soaks into your palate you get a hint of tropical fruit along with crunchy white fruits, tart/sweet citrus, kumquats and preserved lemon. Nicely balanced, and just lifts the spirits in one sip. We bought as much as we could at this absurdly excellent price….while it lasts….not going to say another word!

About The Producer

My father, Robert, started the Domaine in 1982 with only two hectares of vineyards in Mâcon Davayé. Over the years we have acquired more vineyards so that when I joined him in 2010, we had 10 hectares. Now I am managing the Domaine, we have almost 20 hectares in the heart of the Mâconnais region with vineyards extending from Davayé towards the feet of the two famous rocky outcrops, the rock of Solutré and the rock of Vergisson.

While we do have small parcels of Pinot Noir and Gamay planted for our red wines, the majority of our vineyards are planted with Chardonnay. These are spread across numerous parcels, producing wines of individual character due to their particular exposition, slope, soil, and microclimate, or ‘terroir’ as we call it in French.

Our year-round work in the vineyards and in the winery has one aim: quality. We are meticulous in all we do: the soil, the vine, the grape all deserve our passion and the attention to the finest detail to produce the best possible wine.
