Pierre-Henri Gadais Muscadet Hommage a Louis Gadais 2022 - Last Bottle

Pierre-Henri Gadais Muscadet Hommage a Louis Gadais 2022

Wow…that might be some kind of Sancerre SELL OUT record here at Last Bottle. You might have missed out…but this should cheer you up…the BEST Muscadet ever!

Raise the ROOF!! This…THIS is what we live for! Utterly awesome, rich and racy, mouth-tingly, bone-dry, uber-fresh, go-get-us-some-oysters-right-away, I must have MORE bottles of MUSCADET! (moo-ska-day)! Pierre Henri Gadais is BACK (and better than ever)!! Over 50% OFF!!!

This is a new project – or rather, a Frankensteinian rejuvenation of a very old one. All I can say is HEADS UP! I’m not kidding when I boast this is the BEST Muscadet I’ve ever had! While going through the family cellar, Pierre found this old label from 1942, used by his great-great grandfather. Simple and striking – a crown, the family motto (“quality is our only value”), and wine details… Pierre was in love! Pulling fruit from Masses (pronounced “mæs”), his best vineyard, and named for a type of currency used in the region back in the 14th century. Separate from his father’s domaine, 15 hectares of ORGANICALLY FARMED melon grapes – composed of a melody of 10 various soils, but mostly granitic rock. We tasted a sample of this just before it was bottled several months back, and I hounded our import manager about its arrival for weeks and months after! Strutted out of the warehouse with two cases as soon as they landed…if you hurry you might be able to do the same today!

Fermented with wild yeasts, barely any sulfur, added only once – this is the rare uber-geeky, incredibly hip wine that transcends classification…I seriously can’t imagine anyone NOT loving this wine. Call it the Hedy Lamarr of the wine world…brilliant, gorgeous, uniquely inventive, with star power to spare! Honeysuckle, melon blossoms, river rocks, UBER-FLINTY, with lemon, tangerine, bergamot, clove, saltwater taffy – DANG! Incredibly complex, layered, weighty – all with a well-integrated acidity that keeps this going on…FOR DAYS! You can lay this down like Grand Cru White Burgundy – but…not gonna lie…it’s going to be Mike Tyson tough not to crack into a bottle a week until my two cases are gone.

Props to those of you who manage to score some...not a lot to go around! Who wants OYSTERS?!?!

Nestled in the cradle of the Muscadet appellation between the two rivers of Sèvre and Maine. The slopes of these river valleys give the vines an unique exposure and, after centuries of erosion, they grow on a terroir of schist, gneiss and mineral rich orthogneiss, a composition of soils leading to Saint-Fiâcre being considered one of the best sites for Muscadet.

About The Producer

Pierre-Henri Gadais is now really making his mark at the helm of his family’s Domaine in Muscadet. He is in the process of converting to organic production and experimenting with a new ‘natural’ cuvée called Melon Blanc. Probably not the most fashionable place for a young winemaker but he is genuinely enthusiastic about the potential of his native region and if you want a bright, saline, food-friendly white to freshen the palate, then remind yourself how good proper Muscadet can be.
