Tenuta Terre Nere Brunello di Montalcino Riserva 2011

Brunello! You bewitching creature, we CANNOT stop drinking you and loving every sip, it is really honestly getting out of hand. BUT….93 POINTS, more than 50% OFF retail...AHHHHH! OK, one more case please!! This is the Riserva, the big gun!! Crazy price!

Seriously, Terre Nere’s Riserva 2011 is just so outrageously, comically, dangerously easy to drink, and this Riserva will also age for decades, despite its current (really current, as in, it’s in a glass on this desk, ha ha oh yes we did) utter deliciousness.

Terre Nere is a Last Bottle all-time fave, a wine we bring in every year direct --- and as soon as we started, they were getting BIG PRESS, so we are stoked to have found it early!! So, most of you savvy types will already be snapping this up --- it’s a small parcel and not much to go around before we move into the 12s and 13s, so if you are new to LB --- well, just GET THIS!! What a price!!! 93 points!

Lovely, lush, complex and forward-styled Brunello --- surprisingly light in body and color but maxed out with deep cherry flavors, cherry jam, dried flowers, a hint of orange, mocha, earth, and sweet grilled herbs…ah…! YES! We love it!! Please just get a few while they are in the warehouse! Woo hoo!

Terre Nere Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is produced only in the best vintage. It is a brilliant, deep garnet color and  has an excellent elegance at the nose with hints of ripe red fruit, tobacco and enchanting spices. Elegant and persistent tannin with a long and balanced finish.

Preferably opened for a least one hour before served.

About The Producer

The Terre Nere estate stretches over 15 hectares (37 acres), at an elevation of 280 meters, 10 km south-east of Montalcino. Ten hectares (25 acres) are planted in vines near the hamlet of Castelnuovo dell’Abate, on the slopes below the hilltop Castle of Velona. These 10 hectares, including 9 of Sangiovese and 1 of Cabernet Sauvignon, are grown in pruned spur, cordon trained rows with a density of roughly 4500 vines/hectare. The vineyards are nestled in a setting of rare beauty, surrounded by pristine forests and where there is a micro climate ideal for vine cultivation. All the vineyards are in hilly areas and enjoy excellent sun exposure while being embraced by a constantly blowing breeze provided by Monte Amiata and Monte Nero. The Orcia river flows in the valley below the vines, guaranteeing a reservoir of humidity during the hot season and carrying out an important thermoregulatory action. The dark terrain is composed of galestro, a mixture of loose marl and limestone which is typical of the Tuscan Apennines and is quite friable. Galestro guarantees good drainage and forces the vines to sink their roots deep into the soil which results in healthy maturation of the grapes. This type of  terrain produces long lasting wines, with good essence and acidity. The special dark soil  gives the winery its name “Terre Nere”.
