Tenuta Degli Dei Cavalli Toscana 2015
48% off! My word…shouldn’t every Sunday start out this awesome?!?! CAVALLI!!! Cabernet sauvignon, petit verdot, cabernet franc – I weep! So effing good…mind-rattlingly underpriced. Love Tuscany? Love wines with colossal scores and purity of place? Wines that sing?
Here ya go! The Cavalli Family has run this spectacular estate since the early 70s and if the name sounds familiar to you fashionistas out there, yes, it is that CAVALLI. Roberto Cavalli, who brought sand-blasted jeans and exotic animal prints to the forefront of 80’s fashion (the shame, the shame!) runs the estate with his son, Tomasso. Together, they breed horses, grow grapes, and make some truly amazing wines! Just…
GO. We barely got enough to sustain our own ravenous thirsts for sexy-at-this-level. 50% cabernet, 35% petite verdot, 15% cab franc…these are classic “Bordeaux '' varieties kissed with the sun in that way that only Tuscany can...oh, rolling hills, endless skies, incredible sunsets EVERY night…Estate of the Gods, INDEED! This is from PANZANO, in our opinion the center cut filet mignon of Chianti Classico, where Super Tuscan titans like Fontodi's Flaccianello, Rampolla's D'Alceo, and La Massa's Giorgio Primo are all born and thrive. This area just makes the magic happen for Italian cabernet blends.
Superbly styled, fantastically rich, and ultra-luxurious – you might think you’re drinking something kept in a glass case in the snazzy part of the wine shop – BOLD creme de cassis, uplifting violets and lilac aromas, luscious cherries and plums–all penned in with warm, toasty oak, roasted sage notes and a finish longer than the run-time on Kate and Leo’s Titanic. Seriously – this has tons of deep flavors and a finish that won’t quit. Irresistibly easy to fall madly in love with – the blackberries, the black cherries, honestly, it’s all a bit heady. I said 96 POINTS, right? FOR THIS PRICE?! Man, I love this job!! While it lasts, friends!!
Roberto Cavalli loved his dog. The German shepherd that lived on the estate with him, though lovingly called Lupo, was officially named “Didone Degli Dei” on his pedigree, which translates to “Dido of the Gods.” In honor of his four legged friend, Cavalli named the estate Tenuta Degli Dei, or “Estate of the Gods.”
