Vitiano Bianco Umbria 2015

Ah, yeah...it’s really important that you do whatever you need to do (unless you are skydiving or something) to PLEASE grab this all-time Italian CLASSIC at what can only be described as a Bruce Lee/Chuck Norris/Sigourney-Weaver-in-the-original-Aliens-movie level deal. We are….nearly….speechless today.

Oh man, the force is strong in the one. The price is stronger, though. Wow. So --- let us dust ourselves off and ‘splain you the awesomeness of this deal. Probably a lot of you know Vitiano. They came on the Italian wine scene in 1995 as an offshoot of the famous Falesco winery, which you probably also know, and immediately started getting huge scores and were hailed as a fantastic value, best-ever-deal kind of producer. And that remains the same. So when we tasted this and worked a jaw-on-the-floor deal, well, we’re just skipping around the warehouse like 3 year olds.

This wine is a crisp, serious, complex mouthful of deliciousness. More complex than say, most Sauvignon Blanc (it is 50% each Verdicchio and Vermentino), but retaining zippy freshness and length. The nose and flavors are terrific --- lemon preserves, ginger, citrus, walnuts and roasted nuts, mineral and fresh --- light on the palate but oh-so complex. A truly exciting and refreshing change from the norm. AND THE PRICE?? Are we crazy? What a score!!

Vitiano Bianco was born from one of the many experimental vineyards
Falesco has planted through its relationship with the University of
Viterbo. The grapes thrive in the
sedimentary clay soils around the Marciliano estate. Harvested in
September, the grapes are crushed and vinified separately, then blended
together to create an excellent wine of unparalleled value.

About The Producer

Falesco Winery was founded in 1979 in Montefiascone
by the brothers Riccardo and Renzo Cotarella, both
winemakers and deeply rooted in this land at the border of Lazio and Umbria regions.
One of the first goals of the company was to recover
the ancient vineyards of the area to restore luster to
a territory unjustly forgotten. Thus began a fascinating journey of research on the variety Roscetto that, after many years of experience and research, gave birth in 1989 to EST! EST!! EST!!! Poggio dei Gelsi and Ferentano in 1998, a wine which thoroughly expresses the potential and the richness of these grapes.
