University California Davis owns a vineyard literally smack in the middle of To-Kalon (click for the cool zoomable map) and just in front of one of Robert Mondavi Winery’s MOST cherished, prized blocks of To-Kalon. It dates back 50 years or so and is a research and learning outpost. Cornerstone is one of the very few who make a vineyard-designated wine from this hallowed ground and it usually sells out in record time...so getting a chunk of this to sell is pick-the-jaw-off-the-floor amazing. At this price???? Interestingly, lauded winemaker Charles Thomas (along with the talented Kari Auringer) actually made the Mondavi Reserves for many years (from To-Kalon) before moving on to Cardinale, Lokoya, and Verite, to name a few!

The wine ---- can you say POLISH? Not the language, the silky, velvety, ripe, satiny Cabernet brilliance…!! DEEP, intense black cherry fruit, that signature To-Kalon-like note of violets (reminds us of Margaux) and pure black currant, with dark cocoa and toasted spices...oh baby!
