Marquis de Mons Margaux 2015
“Guys, you can’t sell a Margaux appellation wine for $22. It’s….irresponsible….” -- said our number-cruncher person.
We told him to go home for the day.
Free from our Negative Nellie, we present...Marquis de Mons Margaux 2015! Bordeaux, baby! Second wine of Chateau La Tour de Mons! Nice price, and hailing from a spectacularly generous and supple vintage, this wine is vinified with as much care as the Grand Vin, and the blend is similar, just coming from the younger vines on the Estate. YOU. WILL. LOVE. IT.
Margaux! So hard to believe. Amazing to even GET any over here across the pond…! The Chateau dates back to roughly 1623 (man, this always slays us -- the centuries of history!!), but has really hit its stride in the last decade or so. The winery states that it strives for balance, but honestly, this packs in a LOT of luxurious fruit and spice, with that cool, super-yum note of roasting coffee beans and vanilla bean, with a bit of the violet flower that we look for in Margaux wines. Just satisfying, warm, toasty love going on here (pours another).
We tasted this back in Bordeaux some months ago, bought all we could, and it just hit the warehouse. Killer-diller wine, guys, highly recommended before we sell out….there’s never enough Margaux! While it lasts..!
1936 The Château is classified as a Cru Bourgeois
With its history stretching back for several centuries,
Château La Tour de Mons is a single block vineyard, surrounded by a wall and
located in the northern part of the Margaux appellation near the banks of the
Garonne, as are all the very best Médoc Crus. The origins of the château date
back to the 13th century and many generations have been involved. Amongst its
illustrious owners was Pierre de Mons, who acquired the property in 1623 and
gave it his name. The estate belonged to his lineage until the end of the 20th
century.
