Poulvarel Costieres de Nimes Gres 2016 - Last Bottle

Poulvarel Costieres de Nimes Gres 2016

Do you hear it? It’s angels. And they are singing. Because POULVAREL is here, to slake your insatiable, exigent and thoroughly understandable deep thirst for rocking delicious 90-POINT, neuron-meltingly priced southern Rhone red, from the warm, ancient Roman lands of Costieres de Nimes! YES! One of our all-time most beloved wines, and a world-class QPR (quality/price ratio) overachiever. YAAAAY!

BUT! Act quick. The rest of the world is catching on to Poulvarel (probably partially our fault, since we email blast our lovelies all over the planet on a daily basis, right?). Anyway -- don’t hesitate. Outrageously good stuff.

2016!! You’ve heard us yell it from the rooftops -- it’s just an astonishingly great vintage in France and most of Europe (Napa, too, FYI) and when wines in this price level come along it’s simply madness to not load up. We are! I got my case! Poulvarel’s “Gres” bottling is beautifully easy to love --- pouring out perfume and macerated plum and black cherry fruit, a deeply satisfying smoky, almost hoisin-like savoriness, with the unmistakable sweet herbs and licorice. ‘16s are round, complex, silky and mouthfilling and, well, my goodness, have you not already bought some? Gads- hurry! This is a Last Bottle record-holder and it WILL sell out in zippidy-doo-da fashion, we think...while it lasts…!

The Domaine de Poulvarel in Sernhac, near the Pont du Gard is a family vineyard cultivated with passion for several generations. This vineyard of the Rhone Valley, offers tastings of rosé, white and red wines in Costières de Nîmes and Vins de Pays appellation.

About The Producer

It is impossible to separate the Poulvarel Estate from Elisabeth and Pascal Glas. And for good reason, in 2004, while Pascal worked in wine estates for 25 years, they decided to create their own winery on family lands.

What seemed like a crazy bet at that moment, is now a well defended bet. The vintages of the estate are among the "award-winning" wines of the region and are "noticed" by the specialized press. Pascal passed on his passion for wine to Elisabeth and together they had the audacity to launch and the will to continue. They have united their strength, their differences, their know-how and now offer wines worthy of the best tables.
