San Roman Bodegas y Vinedos Toro Tinta de Toro 2015 - Last Bottle

San Roman Bodegas y Vinedos Toro Tinta de Toro 2015

Hi! So…do you love light, simple, unoaked wines? THEN HIT DELETE IMMEDIATELY, we CANNOT recommend this one, no no no, this is for those who watch Game Of Thrones on repeat, listen to Pantera, and cage-fight. OK, that’s a little much, but you get the idea. THIS IS NOT FOR THE SHY. At all.

Sufficiently PUMPED? Cool. Decanter 95 points, Vinous 94 points, DOUBLE 93-POINTS from Wine Spec and Wine Advocate (as is typical for this wine, the critics LOVE it), fantastic price (you’ll NEVER see it for less) and just a MAMMOTH, deep, dark, rollercoaster of blockbuster, old vine Tinta de Toro (Tempranillo) grapes (60-100 yrs old). The Toro region of Spain typically produces intense, concentrated wines (from old vines and stony, rocky, dry soils) and this is most definitely in that category. Lavishly oaked (70% French), hedonistic, mouthcoating, spicy, warm and just MASSIVE. Read the many reviews below...but do NOT take down the Xmas tree and then come back -- it WILL be gone!! Wow!

The San Roman is a profound wine that combines power and elegance, has civilized tannins and a dense mouthfeel, with crisp flavors of black fruit. Fascinating and expressive aromas, full of fruit. Succulent, fine, compelling.

About The Producer

Mariano Garcia started Bodegas Maurodos in 1995. His sons now help run things - Alberto (management) and Eduardo (winemaking and vineyard care). San Roman has 130 hectares planted to mostly Tinta de Toro and Garnacha. The vineyards average 35 years of age. The soils are loose, stony or sandy depending on the areas as with clay subsoil where the plant can obtain water in times of drought. The varieties and plots are vinified separately to respect the characteristics of the different vineyards. Wines are structured and elegant, balanced, with refined tannins and deep minerality.
