Mystery Pinot Noir Anderson Valley 2018
WHAT?! ANOTHER sell-out???!!! Looks like DAOU fans weren't to be upstaged by the lightning-fast sell-out we had of yesterday's Ridge. Onto the next...
It’s MYSTERY time! We only do this a few times a year...and only when the wine is so spectacular, at such an UNREAL price that the only way we get to sell it is if we promise to not reveal the winery and all the juicy, too-good-to-be-believed details. We can tease, hint, suggest, and lay bread crumbs with the best of them, however, so let’s see who among you is up to the challenge!
This CULT-y coastal pinot noir producer has been called "one of the top producers in the Santa Cruz Mountains" by MAJOR critics and publications. They’ve been blessed with "countless 95-99 point wines from myriad critics" and had an incredibly successful 2018 vintage across the portfolio. Top critics HEAPIN’ on the praise – calling it “off the charts brilliant”, and “incredible wines across the board”, with one critic throwing down the final gauntlet, marking these fantastic vinos as “the finest wines I have ever tasted from [this secret, too-cool-for-school producer.]” I mean…WOW! Can you just feel the excitement? We’ve worked out one of our all-time PINOT NOIR deals here, and trust us – a warm feeling of intense contentment, mixed with the agony of realizing you should have gotten more awaits every single lucky Last Bottle soul that snags some of this fantastic wine! Ok, barely enough to go around…so let’s jump into the HINTS!
- MAJOR critics have called this 2018 Anderson Valley Pinot Noir “gracious and beautifully lifted” and remarked that “this is a very serious appellation-level wine.”
- This is from the winery’s Anderson Valley estate, tucked away in the northwestern corner of the AVA, close to the cooling breezes of the Pacific.
- The pinot noir selection here is an assembly of massale clones from their Santa Cruz estates, plus a few acres of old vine material that was already in production when they purchased the property over a decade back.
Oh, man…any guesses? This is a tough one…we agreed not to give it away too much…because this is a multi-verse shattering, space-time-continuum disrupting vinous BOMB of an offer. But, for all that…what’s it TASTE like?
EPIC. Sappy cherries, red currants, cinnamon, clove, forest duff, black truffles, with this sweet toastiness on the finish…dang! It’s silky, perfumed, and incredibly smooth throughout – there’s not a rough edge to be found anywhere on this glorious pinot noir. This take on coastal pinot noir in California takes things to another level altogether! A steal at the winery’s price – but at our downright silly $25??? TWENTY-FIVE DOLLARS!!! Back the truck up, folks – you will be rolling on the floor in wine-driven ecstasy when this arrives. You’re gonna want more – that much I can promise. While it lasts!
