Champagne Paul Berthelot Cuvee Eminence Premier Cru NV - Last Bottle

Champagne Paul Berthelot Cuvee Eminence Premier Cru NV

"Too much of anything is bad, but too much Champagne is just right." - Mark Twain

Woot! Couldn’t agree more. Your humble scribe just threw a case of this in his car, because...holidays! All my guests are going to sip this Eminence Brut Premier Cru not having a clue how much less I paid than the rest of the planet -- I highly recommend you do the same. BERTHELOT is BACK!

* pours another glass despite the hour and concerned/slightly jealous/impressed co-workers' glances *

Where was I - yes, Champagne. Crazy price. Life-giving properties of laser-fresh citrus, stone fruits, flowers...yes...I’m getting some ripe apricot, some peach, some sweet bread dough, and the FINISH! Minerally, piquant and zippy with a touch of honeysuckle and as satisfying as reading a book in front of a roaring fire with a cute kitty on your lap. SO good. MMMM!

Domaine Berthelot dates back to the 40s, in the village of Dizy, near Epernay. The Domaine has 16 hectares of vineyards between Dizy and Avenay, classified Premier Cru, and also Aÿ which is classified Grand Cru. Pinot Noir and Chardonnay are the majority in equal parts. For the Champers geeks out there, the dosage on this bottling is 7g, alcohol is 12.5, disgorged this year, mostly 2015 vintage fruit -- 70% Pinot Noir, 30% Chardonnay. BOOM!

We brought in as much of this cuvee as we could (did you get some last year? Then you KNOW how good it is…), but it will not last long. You’ll be one of the few people in the country to own any! While it lasts!

Foam: crystal clear wine, yellow
subtle tint now in the intense reflections, the attractive cordon of
fine bubbles.
Nose: the Powerful opens on
vegetable notes(ferns) of herb tea,
to bloom on the honeylile and the
slightly mentholated mature fruits.
Mouth: structured well and supple (flexible) in the attack with notes of apples, pears and currants
with a light mentholated and aniseed. Good finale length.
