Degani Amarone della Valpolicella Classico La Rosta 2016
MURMURATION. It’s one of the MOST beautiful things in nature….besides yeast turning grape juice into liquid happiness...holy smokes, it’s one of our all-time mega-faves...AMARONE! The new vintage of Degani is HERE!! Over 50% OFF, ONLY at your fave Napa Valley wine-slingers!!
Caught some cool murmuration this weekend. This IS the season. So awesome. Anyway, like nature, Amarone inspires passion and deep-seated feelings of satisfaction and awe. Ask any Last Bottle client who has had this, and prepare to get an EARFUL! The single-estate La Rosta (only made in the very best vintages, of which 2016 is a barnburner) is made in the traditional style (the best grapes are air-dried in special wooden boxes/mats for about 20 days before fermentation which increases the intensity and ripeness) and is SINGING. Man, this is outrageously fun to drink. Ripe, concentrated, intensely savory and full of gusto, this is packed with sweet plums, dark black cherry, sarsaparilla, roasted almond, coffee liqueur, dried strawberry and red rose perfume. Goes on forever. Fantastic, rich mouthfeel, and terrifically aromatic chai-like spice and creme de cassis flavors. Definitely not for the “super light, elegant wine” crowd, but if you like ‘em ripe and affable, generous and lip-smacking, this is IT. So good! Amarone! THE PRICE! Amazing price, of course but not a lot to go around. While it lasts..!
Intense garnet red in colour, this wine is rich, full bodied and firm. Its perfume is clear and fresh, its taste is velvety and lingering. Well structured and beautifully balanced with soft tannins and a hint of chocolate and vanilla.
Amarone is a noble wine produced with the best bunches hand picked and then laid flat in special wooden boxes for a 3/4-month drying process. Thanks to this method, the grapes increase their sugar concentration by 25-30%. In January the grapes are crushed and then the fermentation starts. After 25-30 days the must is transferred into stainless steel tanks. Once the malolactic fermentation is completed, the wine matures in barriques (special barrels) for 24-36 months and then refined in bottles for some months. This wine is the result of top-quality grapes and can be produced only in the best vintages.

About The Producer
When we think of history and tradition we cannot help but imagine distant and forgotten times. The past is a warm and colourful place in comparison to the mechanical coldness of the present… but not always.
In certain things tradition survives, carried on by the same loving hands of the past. Hands that caress the grapes as they have cherished the hair of the grandchildren, who, in turn, return to the grape.
This is what is hidden behind a historical name in the production of wine: The farm F. Lli Degani, whose name suggests how their activity is lived. A family run, in the true sense of the word, where all the activities, from the first manual collection of the grapes.
