Chateau Rieussec R de Rieussec Bordeaux Blanc 2019

April Fools joke? Too early...well, holy smokes, whaaaaaat?? WHITE BORDEAUX, not just ANY, no, no, we have picked our jaws up off the ground and begun to comprehend the awesomeness of the legendary RIEUSSEC BLANC in our warehouse, our fingers stroking the label...too, TOO cool! This is gorgeous, pure, racy, brain-tingling dry white -- wow!

Factoid alert! Chateau Rieussec got its start when it was founded by an order of Carmelite monks. Like many Bordeaux wine properties, the estate was confiscated during the French Revolution. This led to an auction around 1790 when it was sold to the Marheilhac family. It is now under the the ownership of the Rothschild family (Lafite).

The incredibly rare, DRY white Sauternes from Rieussec (one of the MOST famous and critically acclaimed Sauternes chateaux, and a Premier Cru Classe)..at this price..??!! Like Chateau d'Yquem's coveted (and $175) "Y" (their dry version of d'Yquem), this has much of the same sensational characteristics -- bone dry Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon, killer acidity, exploding with what is literally a lemon curd pie nose, with orange flower blossoms, creamy, buttery notes (though it is NOT a buttery wine) and quince and candied lemon pith...just...wow. In your mouth, it's all the same with zippy acid, good length and a savory finish. Just unreal stuff!! This is hard enough to find anywhere, much less at our price. What a way to finish March!! Drink this ALL the rest of 2021 with your coolest friends and into ‘22 with ease. Incredible -- while it lasts!!

About The Producer

The first known reference of Lafite dates back to 1234,with a Gombaud de Lafite, abbot of the Monastery of Vertheuil north of Pauillac, the existence of Lafite as a medieval Lordship is attested from the 14th century. The name of Lafite comes from the Gascon "la hite", that is to say the mound. There were probably already vines on the property, but it was with the Ségurs, in the 17th century, that the vineyard was structured and that Lafite's reputation as a great wine property was established. Jacques de Ségur is at the origin of the plantation of the vineyard of Lafite, around 1670 and at the beginning of the 1680s. In 1695, the son heir of Jacques de Ségur, Alexandre, will take for wife the heiress of Château Latour and this union will give birth to Nicolas-Alexandre de Ségur. The two seigneurial estates of Lafite and Latour are thus united for the beginning of a common wine history.
