La Serena Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Gemini 2016
Viva Italia!
96 POINTS! (Plus some 95s, 94s, and simply tons of critical praise). The UNBELIEVABLE, completely GA-GA 2016 vintage that we will never, ever, stop praising to the heavens! The glorious and pristinely located LA SERENA is back! And with their RISERVA GEMINI no less! This is their top Brunello, 100% sangiovese, 30-year-old vines right next to the winery, smack-dab in the most illustrious grouping of top Brunello producers in all of Tuscany! Cerbaiona, Casanova di Neri, even Biondi Santi’s legendary IL GREPPO estate! This is the land of $200+++ sangiovese, no question. But...NOT TODAY!
Andrea Mantengoli’s wines have been praised for years by the critics, and you might have noticed that we love them a good bit, too! Just listen to Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate when they proclaimed: “His wines meet that elusive sweet point between power and elegance that is so difficult to achieve.” Or even Antonio Galloni boasting that: “Proprietor Andrea Mantengoli can be counted on for rich, powerful wines full of character at La Serena.”
I just can’t say it enough… 96 POINTS and UNDER $70 on a Brunello Riserva that CRUSHES wines two or three times the price? Get this! Over $50 OFF, good people! LUSCIOUS, salivating, rich, brooding, inky and jam-packed with dark cherries, and plums, but also spearmint, blood orange, kirsch, tobacco leaf, and black tea – and this crazy bouquet of wildflowers…WOW! A long, mouth-coating texture and a staying power to last decades!! Maybe it's the ORGANIC farming. Or the 42 months aging in large oak foudres. Or the famous tufa, clay, and sand mix in these glorious Tuscan soils…whatever the case, one thing simply CANNOT be doubted…this is one of the FINEST Brunellos we’ve tasted from the EPIC 2016 vintage…and ready for your table TONIGHT!
Certified organic viticulture with a keen focus on biodynamic practices, nestled in beautiful eastern Montalcino.

About The Producer
The La Serena estate has belonged to the Mantengoli family since the 1930s, but it would be another five decades before the first La Serena vintage was bottled when twin brothers Andrea and Marcello joined the family business in 1988. Proprietor Andrea Mantengoli took the one-hectare estate and transformed it to the nine-hectare Sangiovese powerhouse it is today. La Serena’s small-production wines encapsulate the Montacino terroir, and are just as collectible as they are approachable in their youth.
