Luna Vineyards Sangiovese Toscana 2021 - Last Bottle

Luna Vineyards Sangiovese Toscana 2021

94 POINT Tuscan Sangiovese for UNDER $15. Boom! That’s the pitch, the clincher, the hook, line, and sinker! We absolutely LOVE this wine, and each time we revisit it (that’s a fancy tasting room term for refilling our cups again and again), we somehow love it a little bit more and more.

We released this FIRST EVER Luna ITALIAN born and bred beauty to the Last Bottle faithful last spring, and it’s back – just in time to stock up for summer! 94 POINTS! For UNDER $15? This continues to be the best bang-for-your-buck sangiovese – straight from a SINGLE VINEYARD in glorious TUSCANY – that we’ve ever featured!!!

100% sangiovese, sustainably farmed, from literal Italian ROYALTY that has been producing epic, Tuscan-born, soul-invigorating, life-giving GOODNESS since before the 14th CENTURY! So pure, so bright and fresh, all raspberry all day, with plump cherries, orange zest, cedar, balsamic, fresh pipe tobacco, crushed rocks, smoky sage, and tingly minty zip on the finish – my word, I’m IN LOVE! The acidity and structure have evolved into this perfectly integrated, velvety smooth, and simply stunning beauty of a wine – there is no question it is drinking better than ever before RIGHT NOW…and that’s saying something!!!

Those of you who scored some of this before already know the deal and are already moving six, twelve, or more of these beauties into your cart – there’s just NO way you managed to hold off on drinking your first cache. But…BUT! For those of you new to the Luna Universe, if you love Italy, and Italian wines that SERIOUSLY over-deliver…grab some of these for yourself straight away! A better deal to be had anywhere on the internet??? NOT TODAY!!

Just picture it – the rolling hills of Chianti Colli Senesi, the red calcareous soils baking in the glorious Tuscan sun, the vines basking in the gentle breeze up at 300 meters above sea level – this is sangiovese heaven! If this drop-dead charming, exquisite, and oh-so pleasurable new Luna Toscana was a physical being – why it’d undoubtedly be the fictional love-child of Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling – flawlessly gorgeous, with a joy-inspiring presence, a soul-jolting smile…just an absolute superstar, basically. 94 POINTS, friends! Did you see that price? That’s less than a terribly clumpy and overcooked platter of cacio e pepe at some pseudo-traditional Italian restaurant…perspective, people! Go stock up and SAVE!

** This is a default St. Helena Monday Night Bocce league wine for me – ‘cause Italian wines make you roll better at bocce – FACT. Also, we tend to roll up with a pizza or two, and some charcuterie, plus other assorted nibbles…and what goes better with pizza than this?! **

When Luna's founders first laid eyes on the Luna property in 1995, they instantly recognized the magic and the amazing potential of its estate vineyard, perfectly located along the Silverado Trail. They bought the property and followed their dream, building a winery that paid tribute to the varietals that set Napa Valley apart.

About The Producer

Luna has been a stable of long-lived, serious wines since the mid-90s when wine legend John Kongsgaard launched Luna into the Napa Valley stratosphere. He brought tradition engrained by Italian ancestors, to embrace local processes that would sustain a deep and abiding respect for the Napa region. Luna was the first family-owned winery to plant the visionary Italian varietal of Pinot Grigio on the estate vineyard, on the eastern hillside of the Silverado Trail..

Luna’s 27 acres and the winery itself were sold to Gaylon Lawrence in 2020, who reopened the winery as  Burgess. The winery sadly was lost in the fires of 2020, just three weeks after it had been acquired. The winery had been totally destroyed, but the vines faced minimal damage. After the winery was sold, we bought Luna’s finished wines and barrels, and got to bottling! We have been carrying on the Luna name ever since.
