Chateau Pontet-Canet Pauillac 2017
96 POINTS (three times over). Pauillac. Do you have any idea how rarely I get to even type something like this?!?! We almost never get to offer up the GRAND VIN from a TOP BORDEAUX ESTATE – with the recognition and reputation of something like THE Pontet-Canet!!! My head is spinning! Palms sweaty, heart racing...it’s like prom night and I forgot to buy a corsage.
Wooden crates of Pontet-Canet in our warehouse. It’s dizzying to see. This kind of thing doesn’t happen! Did someone “accidentally” put some whiskey in my coffee? Anywho – people! Wow! This is a fantastic opportunity to score one of the great wines of Pauillac (the property is adjacent to 1st Growth Chateau Mouton-Rothschild, whose current release price is around $900!!!). Too many insane reasons to buy this utter blockbuster. Sorry, our heads are reeling a bit.
Go. Just...go!!! I have no idea how quickly this will sell out – but I’m thinking QUICKLY...very quickly. Read the reviews below. Know that the modern age for Pontet-Canet began with the master Alfred Tesseron in 1975 (the Chateau dates back to the early 18th century). This man, who came and tasted with us here in Napa a few years back, introduced modern techniques AND old ones (organic and biodynamic farming) and is currently making the best wines of his life.
Hold on tight – this is a rollercoaster of vinous delight! Decadent, opulent, stratospheric levels of incense and perfumed aromatics, deep concentration – my LORD!! Elixir!! We can’t add much to the pros writeups, but...at this price...do what you can. Grab a few...it made Wine Enthusiast's Top 100 Cellar Selections of 2020 after all. Just hope your willpower is stronger than mine! Crazy pricing!! Super limited! Do what you must.
Uniqueness in its purest form
The wine is deep, glossy crimson.
The fresh nose reveals an elegant balance of fruity, floral and mineral notes.
Great harmony is found on the palate between a highly refined tannic
structure and comforting depth and length.
A very fine wine indeed.

About The Producer
Château Pontet-Canet is a wine estate located in the Pauillac region and ranked as a fifth growth in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification. It has been owned by the Tesseron family of Cognac fame since 1975, and under the family's control quality has risen greatly, along with auction prices and popularity. Pontet-Canet is Cabernet Sauvignon-dominant, and is full bodied with a classic tannic structure, providing the potential for long-term cellaring.
