ZO Wines Cabernet Sauvignon Hafner Vineyards Alexander Valley Sonoma County 2018 - Last Bottle

ZO Wines Cabernet Sauvignon Hafner Vineyards Alexander Valley Sonoma County 2018

One of the FINEST, most Bordeaux-esque Alexander Valley CABERNETS we have tasted in many a moon – at NEARLY 60% OFF!!! Y’all loved their pinot from a few months back...but man! This is something else ENTIRELY!!!

Nestled on the downslope of the Mayacamas mountains, the Hafner Vineyard has been growing grapes since the late 1880s, just a stone’s throw from Alexander Valley’s most famous vineyard, owned by Silver Oak. You’d pay a cool $100 to take home a bottle of that baby from the winery – and I’d sip on this instead every. Single. DAY! (And twice on Saturday!)

Wait, what day is it? YES!!! I’m refilling my glass (I may have absconded with the bottle from the office yesterday…) Rugby World Cup recorded and ready…GO IRELAND! Oh yeah, the wine…INKY! This lovely cassis-y, Saint Julien-esque Bordeaux thing going on, then blackberries and blueberries, graphite, baker’s chocolate, with these delicate and uplifting accents of minty freshness, and the faintest whisper of tobacco – but not in a Vegas casino sort of way. SPICY! Straight-up tasty stuff – easy to sip and disappears from the glass like magic! Wait, what was our price? UNDER $23? Just INSANITY!!! The 2018 vintage was almost…almost as legendary in Sonoma as it was in Napa, but this young pup is just starting to STRUT! And boy, is it PEACOCKING! (Or is it elephanting? No matter.) They don’t make much…we got even less…so WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR? (Sorry for yelling!)

Love y’all! Happy Saturday! Go get some!

Owner, grower, and winemaker David Eckert has spent the last 20 years making wine in the Dry Creek Valley and beyond. His own project, Zo Wines, cultivates fruit from his family-owned Triple Ten Vineyard. The 10.7 acre estate was first planted in 1999 to zinfandel and petite sirah, but was replanted in 2019 to 16 varieties.

About The Producer

David spent most of his career in the cutthroat world of Asia’s finance industry, where he met his wife-to-be in Tokyo. On their first date together, they bonded over their shared love for elephants (cute, right?) The pair left the ruthless finance sphere, and lended on a former Bed and Breakfast and 10-acre vineyard in Dry Creek Valley, and thus, Zo wines was born! The word “zo” is the Japanese word for elephant, the sweetest homage to Eckert's love story.
