Rocca di Castagnoli Pratola Toscana 2015

Carmignano is DONE! But we…got…YOU! Over 58% Off CRUSHABLE 94 POINT, whoppingly, certifiably rich and delicious Super Tuscan…simply WOW!

Wish we had more of this, but hey, sometimes life is all about grabbing what you can, while you can – am I right?!

This plot of ancient land in the Chianti Classico region and the wine from it dates back to roughly 1773! While there’s plenty of sangiovese here, Rocca di Castiglione also grows the classic Bordeaux varietals, and PEOPLE, this is ROCKING! Think inky, dark, mineral, yet supremely juicy and fresh Right Bank Bordeaux – all with that warm earth spice note and silky finish that just screams “TOSCANA!!!” We immediately said “How much can we get?”, and then did what we do best (besides drinking wine all day) – and made a SENSATIONAL deal. Boom!

Rocca di Castagnoli is a grand estate (and with a heavenly 4-STAR hotel attached to the winery – for our next trip to Italy, perhaps?) But, anywho…the wine! We can’t argue much with the 94 POINT writeup on it – 2015 is a big, powerful, generous vintage… and maybe among Tuscany’s BEST EVER. Juicy blue fruits for days, toasty baking spices for weeks, and Bordeaux-like sweet tobacco for months. Terrifyingly crushable Super Tuscan that drinks like something WAY pricier. The way merlot tastes in this region is just VELVET, polished and mouth-filling, and the sandalwood, toasted allspice thing is just fantastic. THE PRICE! 94 POINTS! It’s a steal and a worthy follow-up to the day’s earlier Super Tuscan. We think we knocked it OUT OF THE PARK today…grab a few while it lasts…

What a DAY!!!

The Rocca di Castagnoli is an ancient medieval fortress and is the geographic and economic center of the Castagnoli township.

About The Producer

The winery and vineyards were established in the 18th century, and have received praise for its exceptional production quality and vineyard management for centuries. Possibly most notably by Leopold II, Holy Roman Emperor during a visit in 1773, where he praised the estate for its quality and innovation.

The Rocca di Castagnoli holdings cover 92 hectares in Chianti Classico, with vineyard elevation ranging from 380 to 860 meters. Their holdings are primarily planted to sangiovese, the base varietal of Tuscan wines.
