Gallica Cabernet Sauvignon Oakville Napa Valley 2017
Rosemary Cakebread’s eye-popping, richly delicious, 96 POINT cabernet sauvignon, ahem (!) OAKVILLE RANCH cabernet sauvignon, at a RIDONKULOUS 57.3% OFF! Yes!!! Wait, and it’s the FOURTH OF JULY!? Oh baby, – it’s ON!! Wow!
Did we say wow? We did? …’Cause…dang!! This wine is seriously badass, hailing from the much-coveted Oakville Ranch vineyard (farmed ORGANIC by master grape whisperer Phil Coturri) on the eastern edge of Napa’s most expensive, coveted, critically-acclaimed AVA! A legendary vineyard in its own right, near all the mega-big-guns, Dalla Valle ($450+), Joseph Phelps’ Backus Vineyard ($250+), Peter Michael’s Au Paradis ($225), and Maybach ($375), to name a few. Rosemary Cakebread, she of the many legendary winemakers across Napa over the decades (SPOTTSWOODE, anyone??!), working her genius magic. BIG scores, perfect condition, straight from the winery cellars — our collective heads spin. Got some yet?
The 2017 cab? SIT. DOWN. Just coming into perfect drinking at its relatively young age, it’s wildly aromatic with gorgeous red rose notes, a bowlful of fresh-picked lavender and dried herbs, all perfectly landing right on the line of elegance and power. There still lies some slumbering girth on the mid-palate that makes me think this wine has plenty left to reveal over the coming decade, but man! She sure is pretty in the here and now! Blackberries and black cherries, blueberries too! Crazy freshness and LENGTH, y’all, LENGTH, wrapping things up with these dusty, velvety tannins and a fine mineral edge...just so, so good. Wild. 96 POINTS!
Not much to go around, but we figured some of y’all would miss out – too busy celebrating on a boat somewhere. But for y’all that move LIGHTNING fast! Woohooooo! What a find! THE PRICE is silly, of course, un-imaginable savings of OVER $100 OFF. OK. Good luck, and Happy 4th!
The 2017 Gallica Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon shares many characteristics with the notable 2015 bottling- warm and sappy, structurally built to age with sweet and fine tannin. Subtle hints of dried sage, blackberry and cocoa powder are evident but the wine leans towards savory, with some black olive, and dried tobacco. Round and supple, this vintage can be appreciated now with the promise of further enjoyment and worthy of bottle aging.

About The Producer
Gallica is nestled in the heart of Napa Valley amongst historic vineyards, coastal oaks, our gardens and olives. Heritage Petite Sirah and Cabernet Sauvignon are rooted in gravelly Cortina soils ambling off nearby Sulphur Creek. Our home is a handsome barn, contemporary and fresh, standing side by side with weathered vines. We strive to practice lightly touching the land from the tending of our vines, thoughtful winemaking methods, to the simplicity of our packaging, Winemaker Rosemary Cakebread’s vision for a wine of her own, eventually called GALLICA, grew slowly.
Inspired by earlier work at prestigious properties in both Napa Valley and Bordeaux, wines were made and a brand grew. The philosophy is a simple one: to craft elegant single vineyard wines farmed organically which accurately depict the site and the story of each unique vintage. GALLICA makes Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Grenache, Albariño, Syrah and limited bottlings of estate Cabernet Sauvignon and Petite Sirah. The brand symbol is a tribute to the ancient rose, their aromatics, and enhancement to winemaking. We love what we do and are fortunate to call Napa Valley home.
