Dolum Cabernet Sauvignon Cask #3 Oakville Napa Valley 2020

Not since I learned that pods of orcas are training their family members to attack and disable the boats that wounded their matriarch, have I been rooting for an underdog like this – UNDER $40 OAKVILLE 2020 CABERNET, people! DOLUM is BACK! We’ve featured a couple of their cabernets, and this new, cab-centric house, with winemaker Chad Alexander is just CRUSHING it. 95 POINTS! But when they threw down claims on a spot in Oakville, in the very heart of Napa’s old power, big name, highly competitive district...man! Gauntlet thrown.

At HUNDREDS less than their neighbors (at least with our killer-diller price today), this is a reality-defying, multiversal madness sort of deal. The legendary Peter Michael Winery scored an IDENTICAL 95 points for their exclusive “Au Paradis” Oakville cabernet...same critic, same 2020 vintage...$180 MORE bottle for bottle. BOO-yeah! Mic drop. 

If you haven’t skipped ahead and bought a case of this already, I just don’t know what to tell you...loaded with ripe and sweet blackberries and blueberries, with a meaty, savory, black pepper note, then cherry kirsch, poached plums, tobacco leaf, dark chocolate shavings, iron ore… all culminating in this dry, chalky, and dusty, this-could-only-be-Oakville, finish. This. Is. INTENSE! Like those videos of massive tiger sharks taking a bite out of a fisherman’s kayak...this will absolutely get your heart racing. Scary good to find quality like this, at a price like this – but hey, we’re Last Bottle, that’s just what we do! 

WHAT A LIFE! 100% cabernet sauvignon. From the winery’s OAKVILLE estate – 40-year-old vines tucked away on the AVA’s eastern edge...right in the heart of SCREAMING EAGLE territory! That gorgeously red clay-ey, loamy, volcanic landslide from the top of Pritchard Hill that makes some of the world’s best, deepest, age-worthiest, all-in-all unicorn cabernets...FOR UNDER FORTY DOLLARS! I’m shook. Nothing else to say. Get a lot.
