Champagne Paul Berthelot Eminence Brut Premier Cru NV
I never thought I’d be that guy, but I’m absolutely LOVING “dry January” right now!!! Not only is it pouring down rain in Napa Valley (and beyond), but I just had the most epic dry riesling last night! And tomorrow, I have a dry-rubbed pork shoulder ready for the smoker! And today is the best of all! DRY (Brut) Grower Champagne from Paul Berthelot!!! Over 50% Off! Woohoo!!!
Look, you do dry January your way; I’ll do it the right way. Deal? Ok, then. Anywho...make way for EMINENCE!
This TANTALIZING cuvée is a blend of 70% pinot noir and 30% chardonnay – so lusciously ripe, oozing with fruity richness, and zippy, piquant minerality. The aromas leap with honeysuckle and bread dough, then peach, apricot, tangerine, and lemon hard candies. HUZZAH! Add on a torrent of stony slate and river rocks on and under the tongue, polished by the softest kiss of wildflower honey at the very last. The wine is simply fantastic, and an impeccable value at that. I’ve tasted Champagne from the big houses at THREE TIMES THE PRICE that doesn’t hold a candle to this jubilant sunshine of Champagne perfection. The PRICE?!?! Have this on hand, at the ready, throughout the year, PEOPLE!
Vinous Media’s new critic, Owen Bargreen, gave this a solid 92-point score from a sample we shared...now it’s YOUR TURN. The perennial killer Premier Cru bubbly called “Eminence” from Berthelot hails from vineyards in Dizy (SAY IT with us!! "DEE-ZEE"), and Avenay and they’ve been doing it since 1940! It just gets our motors running big time – SO GOOD! 92 points! Get it before it’s gone!!!
In Dizy, a village near Epernay, the Champagne Paul Berthelot estate has been developing a Champagne winemaking activity for five generations in the same vein and according to the same principles of the founder Emile Berthelot and his dynamic grandsons and great-grandsons, Paul, conductor of the business of the house from 1940 to 2000 and Jacques, responsible since 1960 for the organization of the vineyard and its development.
