Composed of various plots in the Usseglio holdings, from the old vines of La Crau to others near the ruins of the 12th-century castle of the pope. Powerful aromas of savory dry thyme, lavender, and plums, as well as mulberries, raspberries, and more spices than Gordon Ramsay’s pantry. “The 2018 'Fragments' Chateauneuf-du-Pape is a wonderful showing from Stéphane Usseglio. This begins with pretty aromatics of raspberries and dark plums, woven together with exotic spices, wild herbs, black licorice, iron and hints of white pepper all taking shape in the glass. On the palate this impresses with its gorgeous texture and wonderful overall concentration and depth. It goes on to display remarkable structure and balance through the long, juicy finish. While this is delightful now, it will surely evolve gracefully for years to come. Composed of 80% Grenache, along with equal parts Syrah, Mourvedre, Counoise and Clairette Rose.”

About The Producer
Stéphane Usseglio, son of Raymond, has taken over the domaine in the last few years and he is pushing to reach the potential of the family’s holdings, some of he best of Châteauneuf. Half his vines are situated near the road in the lieu-dit “La Crau” and the other half on the hill across the road from the actual ruins of the new castle of the Pope. He has the good fortune to have very old vines. The average age for his Châteauneuf vines is between 50 & 60 years old and the cuvée Imperiale vines are over 110 years old.
