A cool drink of icy, pristine glacier water, a breath of fresh Alpine air, a rejuvenating polar-plunge in Ireland’s western seas – all things that make me think of Hiller. The lemon, and sage, with fresh-cut grass, and tangerine blossoms, with honeysuckle, and saltwater taffy, green papaya, oyster shells, those mouthwatering pink grapefruit candies…WOWZA! It’s jam-packed with flinty minerality, but has a round, ultra-plush texture, with the sort of ripping acidity that makes Grüner Veltliner the ultimate sushi wine…YESSIR!

A simply UNBEATABLE price – especially for quality Grüner like this! Grown on what is known as the “Bohemian Massif” in Austria, these granite-laden vineyards are rooted in the foothills of the Manhartsberg, in the Pulkau region, where two climates collide on two distinct ancient soil types that go back 555 million years!!! At this site, the warmer, drier climate of the Weinviertel meets the harsh, cooler climate of the Waldviertel – resulting in warmer, sunny days and bitingly cool nights throughout the growing season. The happy result is ultra-racy and hyper-fresh, and…without question, our favorite discovery in Austria! We’ve direct imported them for years and still love to reminisce about a visit to the winery, a hearty meal, and a post-midnight tasting that may have included my boss falling asleep on some barrels – ah, the good days!
