The juice here is an estate-grown blend of several different vinifications of Sangiovese from different plots of their two prized vineyards that stand on opposite ends of Montalcino – one to the northwest, the other, to the southeast. The northwest plot sits isolated amongst the cooling forests of holm oaks and Mediterranean scrub brush, while the southern parcel is one of the great Brunello plantings in the revered Castelnuovo dell’Abate sub-region. The estate did a full-blown clonal study several years back, isolating 120 different clones of the grape, and testing over the years until they whittled it down to the four best clones for their soils and climate…that’s some serious work – and just goes to show the level of precision, dedication, and care you can taste in every…single…SIP!!!
