The fruit sourcing for these guys is impeccable – making use of vineyards with unassailable reputations like Beckstoffer Georges III in Rutherford, the (now former) Newton vineyard up on Spring Mountain, and Sugarloaf Mountain along the southern tip of Napa’s Vaca range, alongside lesser-known micro-parcels up on Howell Mountain and Mount Veeder. The primary focus is on single vineyard wines, yet this FLAGSHIP bottling takes the prime cuts from the absolute best of the best, and blends it into this pristine, primordial ooze of quintessentially Napa Cabernet Sauvignon. It’s inky, and devilishly hedonistic, with crushed blackberries, and saturated cherries, baked plums, and load after load of baking spices, chocolate truffles, and sweetly smoky deliciousness. Vanilla with figs, and espresso with cardamom, all accented with dashes of black pepper and cinnamon, and this meaty, savory hint of wild game cooked cave-man style over an open flame…YES! A structured backbone of graphite minerality keeps this poised and integrated, but make no mistake…this is a tungsten mace of Napa Valley Cab – built to compete with the biggest and baddest cult-y Cabs in Napa today…we just so happen to have it for mere PENNIES ON THE DOLLAR of those other guys.
