94 POINTS! Napa Cab artistry from the wondrously talented Julian Gonzalez — taking over a cherished project from his former boss — Paul Hobbs! UNDER $30 and “dangerously easy to drink…” — Let’s get after it!!!

So…ever heard of Sixteen by Twenty? No — it’s not the most generous vineyard spacing ever conceived. And no — it’s not the newest undecipherable pop phrase that kids have forced into the lexicon of curmudgeonly boomers everywhere. It’s the standard size of a painter’s canvas, silly! But that…that, my friends, is where the commonplace ends. ‘Cause this Napa Cab is EXCEPTIONAL! Mount Veeder and Howell Mountain combined…and 100% Cabernet Sauvignon for a simply GA-GA price…STOP IT!

Seriously — if you like ‘em inky dark, velvety smooth, and chocolate-y rich…this Cab is for you!!! Originally founded in the early 2000s, this winery had the unique distinction of being Paul Hobbs smallest production. Just 15 cases in their first vintage — and about as artisan and boutique as Napa wine gets!!! 94 POINTS means that this supple and generous 2019 is keeping that spirit alive and well…but when you can score this at the Last Bottle price of ONLY $29 — that’s the Sotheby’s private art auction becoming the vinous equivalent of the PGA’s Phoenix Open! I’m talking grandstands, and hordes of rowdy and raucous patrons, with plenty of spirited, well-intentioned debauchery. It’s an experience y’all…and just like that…this Cab simply has to be tasted to be believed!!!

Eventually, Paul Hobbs handed the project to his long-time #2 and day-to-day winemaker across all of his consulting projects, Julian Gonzalez…a man you Last Bottle faithful have been sopping up with a biscuit for years! In addition to the numerous Paul Hobbs projects, his winemaking chops include stints at Dominus Estate, Stag’s Leap Wine Cellars, Mi Sueño, Baldacci Vineyards, and even Mark Herold's Merus Estate. He’s got Napa Cab in his blood — and the quality here tastes like something way, way more pricey! I said 100% Cab from Mt. Veeder and Howell Mountain, right?

OK!!! Roasted plums, and blackberry pie, with molten chocolate lava cakes, ripe and rocking black cherries, and a spice box that would make Gordon Ramsey’s pantry seem barren. HUZZAH! Clove, and cinnamon, black pepper, too…then vanilla, and black cardamom, with cocoa nibs, and this earthy-loamy minerality underriding all. The texture is crazy luxurious, with soft edges, and a long, satin-y finish. If you love Napa Cab…you’re gonna FLIP for this deal. UNDER $30, 94 points, and utterly thrilling stuff!!!

94 POINTS
"A black-fruited, violet-scented, high-toned Cabernet Sauvignon featuring dark chocolate notes, loamy earth spices, and walnut liqueur notes. Good mid-palate richness, with plump tannins and dangerously easy to drink, thanks to its juicy, succulent character. The winemaker is Julian Gonzalez, who was the head winemaker for Paul Hobbs Consulting." -Decanter
