This is the winery that has solidified the careers of so many Napa heavyweight winemakers — RIC FORMAN, Nils Venge, PHILLIP TOGNI, Bill Dyer. And now the esteemed Lauren Kopit runs the cellar with the mind of a scientist and the heart of an oil painter — which she actually IS, fancily! Sterling makes lots of wine…but man alive, tasting this was a humbling reminder that their RESERVE wines are truly EPIC!!! 

Tasting Panel handed this 93 points for its “strong framework and inviting texture” and don’tcha know we got a sneak peek at the Decanter review publishing next month…TWINNING with another 93! The 89% Cabernet Sauvignon is built out with 3% Malbec, 3% Merlot, 3% Petite Sirah, and 2% Cabernet Franc from primo Napa sites. The dark complexity and structural DEPTHS, great Poseidon have mercy!! On the nose, blackberries and blueberries wash across violets and menthol, with rosemary and that gorgeous graphite and bay laurel earthiness. A LASHING of voluptuous blackberry pie on the first sip is festooned with cinnamon, brown sugar, and mace. Perfectly integrated fine-grained tannins are swirled into red plums, fresh Turkish figs, and a hint of clove. The finish is loooong and bright and classic. Crack one open as soon as possible with braised short ribs and mashed potatoes — and get enough extras to age for a decade.
