OK, so…..DANG!

White wine aficionados….your humble scribe was FLOORED, dazzled, and straight-up pumped up with pure STOKE on this 92-POINTER when we first tasted — my goodness, the Beastie Boys started pounding in my head (opening chords of Sabotage, of course), my heart leapt and I got one of those weird stomach rush sensations – I had just encountered…NEWNESS, in the form of liquid brilliance…not sauvignon blanc, not chardonnay, but with their freshness and depth, crackling zippiness, and a whole broad, group-hug basket of flavors…wow!!

92 points, killer price…OLD VINES, high-elevation (3000 feet!), dry Moscatel from the masterful Telmo Rodriguez, the pioneering producer who has brought Málaga’s forgotten vineyards and wines back to life (and those of other parts of Spain), this is just mind-expanding stuff - tons of cool mountain freshness (can't say it enough), dry peaches (is that thing? It tastes like it!), mint, bay leaf, lemon oils, preserved lemon, elderflower, a touch of honeysuckle…oooof, I need a cold shower. Killer. Delish. Yes, more please.

We bought every bottle that could be scraped up around the country of Spain and brought it over here, mostly for me (kidding, but it’s totally dope stuff). So, at lunch I’ll be buying some Thai food, oh yes.

Really though, this is incredibly cool stuff at a SONG. Someone on Cellartracker called it “a pleasure bent beauty”, and ….YES. Chill it down the moment it arrives and get TO it. MMMM!

92 POINTS
"The dry Moscatel from Málaga 2017 Mountain Blanco comes from a warm, dry vintage and an early harvest that required sorting of the grapes even within the same bunch. This fermented dry in stainless steel. It has an amazing nose with herbs and spices—a lot more herbal than the Moscatel—with notes of bay leaf and nettle, not a varietal nose. The palate has volume, more than I expected, and it's riper, softer and rounder than it usually is. The nose is super aromatic and the palate needs food. This is an unusual vintage that I like very much, against the trends and with potential to develop in bottle. 13,012 bottles produced. It was bottled in May 2018." ~Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
